What passes for serious leftist thought

Donald Kaul, an old died in the wool leftist who unfortunately didn't die from his recent heart attack, proposed this as a solution to Sandy Hook.   You can find the full article here: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20121230/OPINION01/312300033/Kaul-Nation-needs-a-new-agenda-on-guns?nclick_check=1

I have copied the 3 bullet points that Donald, in speaking to the entire world through an OpEd column, has proposed as a serious solution in the current discussion on violence in America.
• Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. It offers an absolute right to gun ownership, but it puts it in the context of the need for a “well-regulated militia.” We don’t make our militia bring their own guns to battles. And surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.
• Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me.
• Then I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control.
And if that didn’t work, I’d adopt radical measures. None of that is going to happen, of course. But I’ll bet gun sales will rise.
This shows a clear lack of thinking, and possibly dementia has set in for poor Donald.

1.  Repealing the Second Amendment, which is properly written and well understood in the wake of Heller and MacDonald, would do nothing to "get rid of guns."  It didn't work in the UK, South Africa, Australia, China, Japan, or Russia.  Making owning guns a privilege would only create a society of "haves" and "have nots" which is quite in line with the rest of Leftist thinking.  Leftists don't want "equality" they want an aristocracy, with themselves as our dear unelected leaders.

2. Declaring the NRA a terrorist organization is a good way to do what exactly?  Make it like the Nation of Islam, or drive it underground like the PIRA?  If you want to make people into terrorists, declaring them to be so is a great way to politically marginalize them.  If you make it impossible for someone to legally participate in the political process, having a gun (or a bomb, nerve agent, etc) means you still have to listen to them.  If you make peaceful redress impossible, violent redress is the ONLY option Donald.  Don't go around trying to make criminals, the war on crime has been even less successful than the war on (some) drugs or the war on poverty.  I will address the "from their cold dead hands" schtick at the end.

3.  Torturing someone until they see your point....  Didn't you come out against waterboarding when Bush did it?  Somehow torture is fine when it is for "political re-education" but not to get information needed to kill those actual terrorists who want to destroy you?  How Communist of you Donald, how utterly unprincipled and short sighted.

And back to "prying the guns from their cold, dead hands" idea that works for you Donald?  Molon Labe bitch.

What an utterly disgusting individual. I feel the need to shower after reading that... Just think too, politicians all over the West take council from people who think like that. You know, as an outsider looking in on U.S politics it almost seems like they're trying to bait their opponents in to making the first move.

This is perfect example why I quit listening and debating the gun grabbers some 20 years ago.

I'd rather watch stone grow, which, actually, is beneficial enterprise.

Happy New Year to You and Yours,

The sadistic torture-murder fantasies are a semi-joke now. It won't hurt his career to out himself like this.
In ten years, this stuff won't be a joke.

AM, you know the military and I don't. Do you think they'll follow orders? My guess is after ten more years of progressive civilian leadership, the US military will be a progressive institution, and they'll follow the orders. Anybody who wouldn't, won't have much of a career, is my guess. But your opinion is worth more than mine.

The military is not a monolithic organization.

The Officer and NCO corps understand the Constitution, Posse Comitatus, and the role of civilian leadership of the Armed forces. There are exceptions to this rule (notably the current NORTHCOM leadership).

Before Katrina I would have told you there was no way that Soldiers would confiscate weapons. History proved me wrong.

I can't believe how nice you are to this Marxist enemy of all that the Constitution and this nation stand for. Of course, as a leftist, he can not truly be condemned as violent, as only those with conservative leanings and the capability of rational thought can be violent. Now I must go in the closet to spew the epithets that I can't bring myself to put in a public post about that hateful, stupid bastard. And I mean that in the nicest way.

I'm quietly hoping Donald develops colon cancer.

He'll be able to detect it early, what with his head being firmly inserted in his ass.

The Des Moines Register is another Gannett company just like the one publishing the names of the registered gun owners in New York.
The enemy here is Gannett. It is their agenda that is being pushed by these clueless individuals. Follow the trail. Who owns Gannett?

Everyone needs to see about AR build parties in the local area. Silicone Graybread has a great writeup of his build.

There is much we should be doing but aren't.

AM, NOLA didn't surprise me, US military personnel, granted conscripted reservists had no problem killing unarmed students including a 14 year old girl back at Kent State.

The quality of troops is better of course but human nature and its relationship to authority hasn't changed.

Thats why if there is a real uprising I think there is a non trivial chance of a junta

As for the asshat at hand, like most reporters he doesn't understand anything about civil war, how numbers work (3% of gun owners is 3 million guerrilla soldiers) or that Molon Labe doesn't mean waiting to be picked off one at a time but taking it to the enemy and people who write junk like will probably be treated as the enemy.

and I've read worse from some in the "patriot" movement

It looks to me fight has already been decided as dirty have a real good chance of going out by both sides the
and fear, paranoia levels and force differentials don't support a clean one .
What I fear is someone along the way will screw up,have a real good chance of going out false flag and honest mistake, something. They'll be another Waco and even the basic "fight quick" and "no kids" rules will go.

We get an atrocity spiral at that point and such fires are hard to put out. After all, ACW 1 a moderately clean (for the day) mostly solider on soldier war is still smoldering some 150 years later...

Its why I hope we can stick to lawfare
more than anything and that we don't get the level of hubris that some fear.

I am too old for that shit.
