However, whether or not I end up patrolling a neighborhood in the US there are those who are already patrolling your neighborhood. They are your local Law Enforcement Officers. They know where you live, they know the rhythms and habits of your particular stretch of the hood, and they are not above putting on body armor and kicking in your door based on a bad tip. They know that no matter how bad they shred your constitutional rights under the heels of their jackboots that they will have immunity for their actions. It doesn't matter if the intel was bad (like Jose Guerena
The biggest reason that we are having a hard time in Afghanistan is the idea of "shared risk" with the Afghans. You can't live on a fortified FOB and earn the respect of those who have lived in a war zone their entire life. One of the big reasons why we see "TSA=STASI" sentiments coming up, and we make fun of the overweight douchebags who raid grandmas house in the "War on (SOME) Drugs" is that they are losing respect. Our law enforcement personnel have sacrificed legitimacy in the name of "officer safety."
Do you know the names of those who already patrol your neighborhood? If you don't, then don't waste your time worrying about random Soldiers who haven't received any orders to patrol inside CONUS. I don't care how smart or tough you are as a fighter, if you can't see the 50 meter target right in front of you then you have no business prepping for that 500 meter shot.
One of the tenets of success is asking yourself what you will give up to get it. Are you willing to give up "safety" to get "victory?" Our cops sure aren't willing to give up "safety" to gain "legitimacy."

Clearly someone doesn't read your blog regularly.

I agree totally.
Militarized, heavy-infantry-trained LEO are definitely danger close. They are here, they are willing, they are equipped to fight us, and they know the areas intimately.
Whether or not you personally choose to end up patrolling American neighborhoods is really a moot point.
If we ever get to that point, well, damn.
It won't really matter if it's you or not (although my understanding of your rank and career progression, leads me to believe you likely won't personally be there...your convictions and beliefs aside).
People are so focused on all kinds of on-the-horizon scary things, that they can't see that they're already in the kill zone.
I learned early on as a gunner (M2, MK19, TOW, M60, M240) that you begin your scan in your sector, sweeping back and forth, starting from your immediate front and working outwards.
Would that we all quit reading InfoWars and look to our own AOs.

Mmyers from Texas small town north of DFW area, it may be something that big ciy or big county can do , we have about 30 officers and most of them we know by name, they do write a ticket or had a family problem but hell they are lucky to have a issue 40cal and a old mossberg pump 12 GAGE, WE DO HAVE A CAGE with a plastic shield and we have a light bar -radio and a camera to protect the officer from not so good people who would lie about how they were treated by our officers, You might have a problem with some police officers, mine are more the type that will run into a burning house to help the folks get out. we have had some older homes with small propane heaters go up. Its small town and we do have protection vests ,they do this for the princely starting pay of $34k , with benefits it might be worth 36k I travel three state area and see little of this military type in small towns , maybe in the major cities who have swat or the DPS has a group that does the military type , I guess with the things happening on the border with mexico and the us gov. needs more attention.
"It doesn't matter if the intel was bad (like Jose Guerena or that Grandma in Atlanta)"
To avoid looking like the MSM, I'll note that the officers who killed Kathryn Johnston went to prison. (Although the taxpayer-provided attorneys got a couple of them some pretty light sentences for such a heinous crime.)
I was somewhat heartened to see that they faced both state and federal charges, although disappointed that a couple were allowed to serve those sentences concurrently.

Oh, and the federal charges on the shooting of Mrs. Johnson stemmed from the fact that the intel wasn't just "bad" as you said, it was known to be bad and the raid went down anyway, and evidence was planted.
Personally, I think those cops should have been made into a meat windchime rather than sent to prison, but that's just me. When a guard dog bites, it needs to be put down.
Tam, thanks for the update, it is good to find out that sometimes there are consequences for bad behavior. On a better note "meat windchime" is a new one on me, but I come from the traditionalist school of thought, head on a pike and whatnot.
@kanafletex
EXACTLY! I too live in a small South Texas town (pop >1500) we have a good Sheriff's dpt and several DPS along with local PD's.
They are so far from the "jackbooted thugs" that it's laughable. They ARE well equipped, thanks to confiscated "drug" money. But I trust them with my life. And I do know almost all of them on a first name basis.

If you trust your local LEO's with your life that is fine and dandy by me. However, I have a few questions.
Do you trust them to not act as forward scouts for others?
How many "local police" assisted the SS in rounding up Jews?
When the chips are down, will your local LEOs side with the locals, or with whatever .gov sends down orders?
Having power over someone's livelihood is quite a bit of power, do you trust your local LEOs to always do what is right, even if it means the loss of their job?
Just some things to think about.
Some bad LE officers overstep their boundaries and are called on it, therefore, all cops are bad. Some bad doctors inadvertently harm/kill their patient, therefore, lets round up all doctors and make them pay. A jerk judge issues a wrong verdict so lets set the judicial system on fire...unbelievable! Most people have no idea what their local LE officers do for their communities on a daily basis, the crap danger they put themselves in to protect your material wealth and to ensure you get a good night's sleep. My local LE encourage citizen CCW, they encourage people to "police" their own families so they don't have to. They feed the homeless (out of their own pocket), have died in burning apartment complexes, and have been shot by drunk sons who have just beaten their elderly mother. As with ALL professions, you get your douche bags who just don't get it. They need to be weeded out and dealt with, but by and large, your local, rank and file, beat cop can be your best friend when things go south. I don't want my neighbor, regardless of who he is, what training he has, military or not, deciding to pick up a rifle and decide that his form of justice is better than everyone else therefore he is the new sheriff in town. Scary thought.
Mac M. If you trust the government more than you trust your neighbor you are a fool.
If you believe that the "vast majority of X are good and honorable" somehow makes up for the fact that the minority wields power in excess of numbers you are doubly a fool.
Most German's are good hardworking people. The Nazi party never had more than 10% of the population actively participating. None of this changes the fact that most Germans were good hardworking people, even under a tyrannical dictatorship.
Many members of the Wehrmacht were simply patriots doing what they thought was their duty.
I'm sure that there were plenty of good police in Germany as well, didn't stop the Gestapo from rounding up dissidents and undesireables.
How many people in Russia were real hardcore communists? But the KGB never lacked for operatives.
And your "hardworking, brave, local LEOs" will STAND BY AND WATCH IT HAPPEN. Just like they did in Germany, Russia, etc. Or maybe they'll join in on the fun like they are already doing as part of militarized SWAT teams "assisting" the Federal Behemoth.
Two comments:
1) When a cop commits a crime, why does it make the newspaper and the newscast? Because it is news, not olds.
2) When you read about cops getting arrested for breaking the law (which is, sadly, also news rather than olds,) they were not arrested by reporters, lawyers, or soldiers, they were arrested by cops.
Tam, good points.
However,
1) All crime is news. However a law enforcement officer breaking the law is a breach of trust in addition to news.
2) Not all bad cops get arrested. Some get "paid administrative leave", some get transferred, and some get retired. Some even get an endorsement contract with HS Precision.
