A man is known by the company he keeps, embracing extremism.

Everyone views themselves as "reasonable" most of the time.  And most of us surround ourselves with like minded individuals in order to feel comfortable in a "cultural norm" of sorts.

Which is how I came to understand that I am viewed by many as an "extremist" and there is nothing inherently wrong with that.  I am not a violent terrorist, nor do I advocate the overthrow of our government by force of arms.  But when I stopped and took a look at all the people that the .gov and media have labeled "extremists" and it resembles my blog roll, I guess I should be included in that group.

But I do wholeheartedly believe that if the people lack the means to resist tyranny that a tyranny becomes inevitable.  The creeping socialism of the European model may be the long slow death march of freedom but there is hope.  Other nations have successfully privatized portions of their social welfare schemes and decentralized their economies.  We can do it too.  We may have to do it.

But I still don't get what is so extreme about knowing some history and pointing out when "new ideas" failed in the past....

How interesting that I had just read this Mises quote a few hours ago:

"It is the mentality of officialdom—which, according to Brentano, was “the only sounding board of the Association for Social Policy”—that considers as constructive and positive only that ideology which calls for the greatest number of offices and officials. And he who seeks to reduce the number of state agents is decried as a “negative thinker” or an “enemy of the state.”

Senator Schumer was recorded last week stating he was following DNC instructions to paint all his political enemies as EXTREMISTS.

It's all about demonizing any dissent against the elites and their governments.

I don't recall if I started visiting here before or after the TJIC thing, but he got in trouble with the state of Taxachusetts for saying "1 down, 534 to go" in reference to Congresswoman Giffords. For saying that sometimes, then quite deliberately saying not this time, but sometime... it may be necessary to take up arms against the government. For that he had his website shut down, his guns confiscated and his right to carry revoked. At least the last I heard.

People in Massachusetts, where British citizens got into a shooting war against the "legally constituted" British government.

It's amazing how much has been forgotten in ~250 years.

Among my personal "rules of engagement" is the reality that "The American who wants something for nothing is a traitor: Deal with such accordingly."
I believe the only thing keeping the government from declaring war on its own citizens is the fact many of them are armed and ready for such. If a majority of them get duped/bought off with welfare or otherwise bribed, the situation could deteriorate.
When the government becomes nothing but a protector of its cronies and establishment against the people, there will be insurrection.
