If you were the Taliban, how do you defend against the XM-25?
For those who aren't familiar with the weapon system, it is an air burst grenade system. Laze the target, set for burst before, on, or after, then fire.
It is evidently quite the fire fight stopper in Afghanistan. http://www.army.mil/-news/2011/02/08/51518-army-wants-36-more-punisher-weapons-in-2012/
I wonder? Would you stay outside the maximum range and use a precision rifle to shoot the grenadier first? Whenever a new weapon is introduced into warfare it takes a while to develop tactics, techniques, and procedures to counter the new capability.
Something to think about anyways.

An impressive weapon.
So were the T-90s, until they rolled into Chechnya and were taken out by insurgents with ancient RPGs firing from high angles onto their thin roof armor.
What man creates, man can defeat.
It just might take quite a few lives to do so...

Yup, that's the way I would do it. Then I would have one of those, and I'm sure sooner or later the Taliban will will acquire one in the same way.
If they manage to upgrade the XM-25's range to 1km, killing the grenadier would be a tough shot for all but the best.
It seems as though the ideal way to defeat this weapon, if possible, would be to come up with some way to nullify the rangefinder. Without the defined-range airburst capability, it loses most of the awesome.
As time passes, opposing forces will get used to seeing these things and could have an opportunity to take advantage of overconfidence the XM-25 has produced.
Would be interesting if it has a min distance to arm.
How much/what type of cover it can penetrate.
Arctic Patriot is right. It does have weak points. But like a computer, it's only as good as the operator.
Initial contact from ambush- ID the grenadier first ensure he is the first target from ambush... Then recover the weapon and use it to your benefit.
The laser seems to be the weak point. I'd try smoke to see if I could see illumination from it. There might be a way to see the laser.
I don't think this is going to be a total game changer. Mostly because the range is fairly short (I wanna say 300m) now if they got it to say 500m it would be a lot bigger deal. The programed burst overhead is the only real huge feature.
Tactics will adapt mostly because this busts up the mid range start shooting at the Americans from behind some rocks stalemate. If I were them I would move a bit further out, a lot closer or include overhead cover in my plans.
Rain? Snowstorm? Fog? Those and more could be a problem...
