Back from the box

But still posting from my iPhone. We did well this rotation, and I pray that it is a sign of success to come.
In a few days I should be home, conducting final training for the big sandbox.

Back in my day, there was no blogging in the box or out. And the only ones who did well in the box, was the opfor.

(Especially when the brass had a the brilliant idea of sending Light Infantry units to Irwin, what kind of idiot...?)(Although, when we went to 29 Palms, we did kinda make the Marines look stupid...)

Kids today, I swear...

This is my second rotation where the BLUFOR kicked ass.

The first was with 4ID for the "Division Capstone Exercise" at the end of the Force XXI process. The communications suite and UAV's at Division and Brigade level allowed the Heavy Mech boys to spot the OPFOR and kill them with Artillery long before they reached the fight. Based on the outcome of that exercise 4ID realized that it could reduce it's M1 requirements by 25% and still be maximimally combat effective in a force on force battle.

This time we weren't doing a force on force scenario, just counter insurgency work. Lots of role players hired from Iraq as well as the 11th ACR boys playing IA. This isn't a scenario with winners or losers, just a scenario where you can see who is paying attention to COIN doctrine and who is going to piss off the natives from day one.

And thank God for blogging. If the Vietnam era boys had been able to get their story out without the mass media filter I believe there would have been a lot more public support.
